Should You Let Your Kids Sleep Over At A Friend'S House?

04-Nov-2014

If they are genuine friends and their family’s standards are similar to yours you should have few concerns apart from the lack of sleep your child may experience.

However, keep in mind children need constant supervision.

With the lure of the Internet and other forms of entertainment, your kids could come back very different from when they left.  So debrief with them about what happened.

•    What fun did you have?
•    Did you say thanks for having me stay?

Remember keep it positive but listen carefully to what your child shares with you.

Unfortunately not all adults are aware of what is developmentally appropriate for kids.  So it makes sense to be vigilant about what your kids are exposed to.

Give your child permission to say, “I'm not allowed to watch this sort of stuff”, or to contact you if they feel uncomfortable in any way.
