How words spoken into a child’s mind ‘wire’ them for the future....

20-Apr-2017

You may remember the messages your parents handed on to you.

The negative ones may have stuck with you and still affect your view of yourself, such as "You clumsy clot", "Idiot", "You’ll never amount to anything", or the positive ones such as "Respect yourself", "You can do it", "Winners never quit", "You may sometimes suffer defeat, but you don’t ever have to be defeated" or  "Things don’t always have to go right for me to be happy".

We have the power in our words to leave good, energising and healing messages in our children’s heads and thus ensure their future. It will be their good and bad beliefs that determine their attitudes and actions.

Messages such as the following will mould a child’s view of his own ability as well as his values:

• There’s no problem so big that it can’t be solved
• You’re a helpful person
• Tough times don’t last but tough people do
• You make friends easily
• Honesty is the best policy
• Mistakes are OK. Mistakes can be fixed
• The person who never made a mistake never made anything
• They need to hear, "You’ll be good at this".
