How do you tell your teenager something they don't want to hear?

Just remember the four Cs.

1. Check your Emotions
Before you speak to your teen make sure your state of mind is calm rather than emotional.

2. Be Confident
Check that what you are saying is in their best interest, not just yours.

3. Be Clear with your message
State clearly what you are asking them to do, or not do... don't beat around the bush.

4. Be Concise in what you say
Don't repeat yourself over and over again, even if you don't think they're listening.

You can begin using these principles even with your young child. In this way you will train him or her that mum and dad say it only once and it's better to listen the first time.
