Have a wise saying each week on the fridge door

A great thing for a family to do is have a wise saying or proverb on your fridge door each week.
Introduce it to the family around the meal table and ask why they think it’s a wise saying.
Encourage each member of the family to have a turn looking for a suitable wise saying that they introduce its history and reason why they think it is wise and possibly who wrote it.

Here are some we have used:
“Brothers and sisters are made for hard times.”
Great to use when talking about sibling rivalry.

And “Anyone who never made a mistake, never made anything.”
Talk about how mistakes are alright when you are learning, very important for the ‘perfectionist’ child.

A Maori proverb that for me, speaks a universal truth,
“..He aha te mea nui? He tangata. He tangata. He tangata.

What is the most important thing? It is people, it is people, it is people…”

“If you aim for the sun you may hit the garden wall.
If you aim for the garden wall you may hit the dirt.
So always aim high in life.”
