Fill 'Er Up, Thanks Mate

12-Dec-2013

Fill your families ‘Joy Reservoir’ this Christmas.

Neuroscience now talks about the ‘Joy reservoir’ in our brains. Some even suggest it is the only part of our brain that keeps growing!

So this Christmas, amidst the tyranny of the urgent, take time to share with your children the greatest story ever told, Christ’s birth.

Mary and I, every Christmas Eve, served Mum’s ‘world-class fruit mince pies’ and sparkling grape juice in wine glasses to our family.

We asked them to share the year’s best:

  • Movie

  • Book

  • Sports game

  • Blessing.

Then I read the nativity account in Luke’s Gospel Chapter two.

And asked questions such as, why did the angel say it was the best news ever announced?

Then I laid my hands on each child and prayed a ‘father’s blessing’ over them.

Traditions such as these bring heaps of joy to a child and fill their ‘joy reservoir’ which gives them resilience for life.
