Encourage your children's debating skills

Encourage your children’s debating skills

To make a logical case for your stance is a life skill we all need to operate healthily in the workplace, schoolroom or family.

Family discussions are a great way to allow your children to learn to form an argument or a case for their opinion.

Set up a tradition of asking a Dad’s question at the dinner table which children must answer.

For example

 •    If you were prime minister, what would you do to make our country better? Why?

•     If you were given a million dollars to help people, how would you use it? Why?

•    If you could meet one important person, who would you like to meet? Why?

Teach your children to back up their answers, with a case that is based on good reasons.
