All about peer pressure

All about peer pressure - have a good read 'cos this one's a keeper....

Author Quentin Crisp said, “The young always have the same problem - how to rebel and conform at the same time. They have now solved this by defying their parents and copying one another.”

How true.

As a parent, your biggest enemy by far is negative peer pressure.  Notice the word “negative.”  There is such a thing as positive peer pressure – when good friends talk your child out of doing something stupid.  But negative peer pressure can destroy everything you’ve worked so hard for.

So talk to your kids at the meal table, in the car, wherever but make sure you talk to them about peer pressure. Statements like: “If Jonny jumped off a bridge would you.”

Teach them:

Functional behaviour is: I Feel - I Think - I Act.

Dysfunctional behaviour is: I Feel –I Act.

Never be too busy not to have input into your teenagers decision making processes.

If your teenager takes advice always from their peers they are getting advice that lacks wisdom from real life experiences.
Treat them like young adults not children.

Do deals with them rather than telling them what they have to do.
Great line is, ”Does that sound fair!?”

Parents must work hard at having a great atmosphere in the home, so your family will share from an early age what is going on in their daily lives. So that when they are teenagers they will still share.
